I think you have looked at this in a good way, not being afraid, but if you weren't afraid, then you would lose a very important character trate. If you weren't afriad of dangerous people, such as murderers, you could get yourself into alot of trouble. I see the upsides that you have mentioned. But I believe there are downsides as well.
